I currently have an 06' 530i. I recently test drove my brother-in-law's Ferrari F430 I now need more POWER or at least a better exhaust system.

The compromise = 2008 or newer M5

But is it worth getting with the F10 just around the corner?

Thanks for the input!

M5 is a M5 F10 or no F10.

2 words - HELL YES!!!! The E60 M5 will be a classic instantly since it is the last (known) of the N/A M5's the next gen will be TT and so this one will be a legend. Plus this M5 is a beautiful beast, we don;t even know what the F10 M5 will look like yet.

I am guessing that the F10 M5 will debut in the later half of 2010 or the first half of 2011. Unlike the E60 M5, which was and is unique to only that car, the motor that is expected to be used in the F10 M5 is not unique to the car and is already in service in the X5M and X6M (albeit in a different and reportedly lesser state of tune).

It's expected that the TT V8 that is reported to be going in the F10 M5 will produce somewhere around 600 bhp and should have a lot more low end torque than the E60 M5.

The E60 M5 is a classic with a beautiful NA motor. The F10 M5, however, should be a good bit faster.

If you can pick up an E60 M5 now you could always drive it for a few years and then get the F10 M5 when the dealers won't be marking them up as much as when they first debut.

I think you should just buy me a used 2006 M5. I would be more than willing to accept.

e60!! I honestly hate the way the new f10 looks. I plan to get a m5 e60 eventually, probably a 06! Sure TT v8 will be fast, I'm not going to be really going over 100 or racing on a track. I enjoy quick bursts of speed off a light or merging on to highway. And honestly you cannot beat the sound of a v10 with no turbo BS, it can sound like a f1 car!! Also if you are buying a used, a new f10 is going to be MUCH more money. You are buying a new car which is going to depreciate a TON of money as soon as you drive it off the lot.

I think E60 M5 is a great keeper (collectible) car. If you can locate a clean one-owner example with low miles and snatch it up at a low (ish) price, I believe it is well worth keeping forever.

However, if you are generally a lease-a-new-car-every-three-years kind of guy, it may make sense for you to just wait it out for the F10 M5.

As for the performance, I'm sure the F10 will be considerably faster than the E60 M5; and it should pack enough technology to make a space shuttle blush. Personally, to me E60 is just a classic, and I believe it will remain a classic forever, eventually appreciating in value. Of course, exhaust note of the V10 is something that sounds better than even some Ferraris - I've heard a couple of our local memers' exhausts here and I've gotta say - its like NOTHING else on the road. I've heard them all - Gallardos, Vipers, big modded AMG bi-turbo V12s and so forth - nothing compares to the sound of the E60 M5 with a good exhaust system. Period.

I guess I have my answer. Just have to find the right one and unload my current one. Thanks!!!
