When I collected my 530d last night I asked about ordering a M5 for 3 years time. I was told that deliveries are out to 2008 already.

Anyone else in UK either ordered one or thinking about ordering one.

I was also told that the dealer would only be getting ONE car, and it wold ONLY be a static display model. NO test drives. Do you think this is right, or is the dealer just telling me "you're not going to order one, so don't ask for a test drive"

I remember that the Audi RS6 when it was first released was only available to demo directly from Audi UK. The dealers had to book use of it.

Seems like your dealer is talking BS!

If you order a car today, in Sweden, you will get delivery in oct or nov 2005.

I ordered my car 16 sept and will get it delivered in july 2005.

I think that is BS. I thinking of getting an M5 aswell. I asked my dealer and he said that if i order now, then i will get it this time next year.

That dealer musty have the worst order book in the UK or you are their best customer! My dealer has 25 orders and has been told they will get four cars next year, I reckon at most dealers if you order now you will get a car in 2006 as a lot of people won't wait or they are speculators.

Don't know about the centrally allocated demonstrator but I would imagine they are trying to avoid another M3 CSL scenario where the dealers and BMW GB both got burnt big time. Some dealers may be refusing to run a demonstrator
as a result of this so maybe that's BMW GB's response.

25 orders and 4 cars per year. Doesn't that mean 6 years waiting if you order now.

If I remember correctly, the dealer told me they were limited to 7 or 8 cars per year.

I don't know if each dealer gets a different allocation. If not, then I guess you need to find a dealer with a small order book.

At least in the US, allocations do vary between dealers. I don't know all the factors that go into determining the allocations but I do know it can be based on past volume as well as whether or not you are an exclusive BMW dealer or if you carry other marques.

You could place your order now at your dealer and cancel it later on if you end up finding a car when you really want one. Don't forget that many of the people "in line" right now will end up cancelling as well...

a lot of people spend money like crazy and aren't willing wait. they just want to be the first one have the car .
