I'm new to the board and I own an 06' M5. I previously owned a 545i w/smg. The launch control on the 545i had a different procedure, that I use on my M5. My car will rev to 3500-4000 rpm before launching. It will leave two 40-50 foot tire marks and smoke all over the place. The car will shift through all the gears by itself.

Here is the procedure.

Set the M function as follows. SMG DriveLogic = D - 5
EDC = sport
DSC = off
Power = p500

Press the M button on the steering wheel
Place the SMG in D1
Press the pedal to the floor and hang on
If you don't smoke the tires and leave some good tracks do it again.

To the members that are getting 1600 rpm how are you doing that?
You must have a non-US car--where are you located?

I'm in atlanta, ga. You'll have to try it for yourself. I think everyone is trying to launch like an M3 does.

The Shifts are not Slow. My car shifts quickly.

That's interesting, because you'd be the first person in the US that I've heard of that got LC to work like it does in non-US cars. Even BMWNA has acknowledged that LC is crippled (only 1,800 RPM launch, no auto shifts). There are lots of M5 enthusiasts on m5board.com, for example, and nobody has been able to do it. How many miles are on your M5? We'd love to see some pix!

I just did the LC again. The car will rev up to approximately 3000-4000 rpm and start spinning the tires and leave 50-75 ft of tracks and automatically shift into D2 and D3 and so on. I'll have to get 2 video camera's and a means to support them and one outside to show the results of my cars LC abilities.

If someone else can try the procedures I outlined above it would confirm or deny the results.

You should post your findings on m5board.com. Out of the hundreds of US M5 owners, you're the only one who has been able to accomplish LC as you describe it. How many miles on your M5? Still would love to see pix of your car.

This does not work.

Just wasted 5 minutes and getting my car wet.

LC is activated by move the SMG Gear level in the console forward. As soon as the gear selector moves forward, it switches to S mode. And no LC.

If i don't move the gear selector forward, and press gas, there is no launch control either.

This is BS.

Yes, that doesn't sound like LC.
