I had the steering trim peeling as well. Got that replaced under warranty.
Also, the specs on the wheels are likely due to a very harsh and abrasive chemical wheel cleaner which has caused parts of the finish to deteriorate.

steering wheel trim here too. Will have it replaced at next service, it really doesn't bother me. At first I thought it was glue and would just clean off but it's peeling.

My steering wheel peeled after a year and they replaced it. I have the same problem with my side pillars. Whats the best way to clean them? I dont want plastic pieces.

My local BMW dealer will clean them anytime i want with thier "special" cleaner. They will not give me this stuff, but have cleaned them 3 times now
