Traded my M3 for an M5

My Ride: 2006 Silver Grey E60 M5
Hello I'm new to the forum! I traded my 2006 M3 last week for a 2006 M5 (it was an 11/11/06 delivery). I got a pretty good deal on it, only 66K OTD with 18K miles. It was fully loaded with all options except for the heated steering wheel. Some doctor traded it in for a Landrover, so it was listed for sale on AutoTrader at a Landrover dealer in Newport Beach. During the test drive the salesman (his name was Brian Smith, a real cool guy) pressed the power button for the first time and we both took off like a bat out of hell! He didn't realize the power this car has. I have never driven a M5 before but have rode in one as a passenger.
I test drove both a 2007 E63 AMG and a 2007 RS4. The AMG felt a little 'boat like' at higher speeds (90+) and the RS4 just didn't feel right to me. The E63 was a hard choice to decide between that and the M5, but even though the E63 has a more violent acceleration (just mash the gas and go) the M5 feels more sportier and more stable at high speeds. Also lane changes changes at 80-100 MPH with EDC at sport felt much better in the M5 than the E63. I do drive 20 miles to work on the freeway here in LA and I will be hitting 80-100+ MPH on a daily (if traffic allows) so high spped manuverability plays an important role here. In the end, I love BMWs and could't say no to the M5. The E63 would have been nice, but it's too 'old-man ish' looking for me (sorry if I offend anyone with that comment).
Since I owed only 16K on my M3, I got 36K for it from the dealer, so 20K went down on the M5. So I really walked away with it the M5 @ 46K. Payments are only at around $900 a month (60 month term @ 6%) and I plan on refinancing and paying double payments for a few months to drop the payments down a bit. This dealer gave me the most for my trade because my M3 had 3 options only - HIDs, parking sensors and Moonroof, plus 36,000 miles in 1.5 years! So I jumped on this one after seeing 5 other M5s at other dealers. I have absolutely no regrets!!

Congrats! And thanks for clarifying the options on your M3 - cause I for one would have taken it off your hands at that price (if it had normal options and miles!). I think you got a decent deal personally.
Oh and heated steering wheel only became available on the M5 in MY 2008 (and not even on initial builds) - so it sounds like you got everything the 06 had.

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I can't wait to start modding. I purposely kept my M3 stock because I knew I would be trading it in for a M5. I am picking up a set of BMC filters with RPI scoops to start with on Friday and I'll shop around for an exhaust when I get my tax refund in a few months. I'm thinking Eisenmann Sport or Race. I prefer the race, but I really want to hear them both in person to see what sounds best.

Congrats and welcome to the board! I assume you're also on M5Board that's why you know about the RPI Scoops. You should check out their classifieds section as I recall someone selling Eisenmann Race exhausts on there. We had a meet this past Saturday and one of the guys had the E-race but he toned it down a bit with some bullet resonators. It still sounded really good. You should also try and get the oval tips. I think they are awesome looking.

Eman nice ride and choice in color. Your E46 m3 was sharp. BTW your sig says Silverstone , but to me it looks Silver grey metallic. anyways good choice . Ill be joining you next year!

Congrats and nice maneuvering into the M5..I wanted to do the same thing but none were around when I turned in my M3. How would you compare M3>M5 handling,... curious, I've never driven one.
