I watched the salesman set everything on the i-drive to maximum settings for suspension stiffness, turn on the 500HP setting, everything..... There was no doubt I was driving on full strength M!
good write up... check out the lounge to see what beast i drove in the other day... i cant wait to drive in an m5... seems to me like 15 miles is prettty long for a test drive normally here the dealer has a marked route no longer 1-3 miles tops...

Maybe an M5 owner can correct me, but when I test drove it, the power was limited to P400 because it has less then 1200 miles. They said the dealer enables the p500 mode once it reaches 1200 miles.

I won't be buying my next BMW from my current dealer that let me test drive the M5. Their service is the pits, and as you can see, their sales dept. ain't so great either. I wouldn't say I flogged the M5, but I certainly punched it a few times above it's "recommended break-in levels." I am sure the car will be just fine....it's a big boy!
Hmmmm - I wonder which dealer? I'm gonna drive by P&W tomorrow and see if they have an M5 in the showroom.

I think it was Sewickley. Don't know about P&W but last time I looked, Rahal had a couple M6's. I also spotted an Alpine White M5 on the lot Saturday but it might already be sold -- I couldn't see for sure as I drove by...
Don't get me in trouble now, in case someone from Sewickley BMW is reading these threads! I've trashed them enough on here already.
As for my 15 mile test drive, I was all over the place....flying around tight corners, moving through long country roads, etc. I don't even remember where we were exactly.....was just concentrating on the next turn ahead, tunnel vision. Coincidentally, I ended up behind a few year old convertible M3, but the lady was driving it like a Yugo. We were out for a good 25 minutes or more. My dealer asked me if I wanted to keep going, but I said that was enough (even though it really wasn't!). I could have gone all day. Ultimately, the $1400/mo lease payment persuaded me to give the keys back real quick. Oh, they have a black M6 there as well, just waiting to be flogged!
And Pa550.....don't mention my name if you happen by Sewickley for a test drive of the M5! You never heard of me!

Sewickley is one of my old stomping grounds. Used to hang out at the Sewickley Hotel many years ago. Is it still there? Nice eclectic little bar/restaurant. I would be in my jeans whilst the peeps from up in the Heights would come down in their furs.

I've driven around there before, however, for site seeing, and there are some unbelievable "cribs" up there. I believe that hotel is still there. Are you talking about the place right on the main drag, on Rt 65? It's there and still popular I believe....never been in myself. So are you from the 'Burgh originally?

Not originally from there but lived there from 81-85 (Moon Twp). worked at Beaver Valley Unit 2 nuke while it was being built. Really liked the pittsburgh area but hated the roads and winter weather/gray skies.
As I recall, the Sewickley Hotel was on the main drag in the shopping district (downtown Sewickley), not sure of Rt No.
And yes, I used to cuise the Heights just to see how the other half lived.
Best of luck with your M5 if you get one. As for me, I decided to get the 550i instead. Far more practical but not as much fun. I had an 03 E39 M5, which I know is radically different from the E60 but one of the finest cars made at the time. The 550i is a nice compromise.
