Another Newbie question,
I've noticed that when I unlock the car I hear a whirling noise and when I turn the car off I can hear a a similar noise but near the boot area. It almost sounds like a noisy fuel pump. Does anyone here know what goes on when you unlock the car and after you have finished driving.
If its an over zealous fuel pump it'll explain my 8.5 mpg figure!
Its not the ticking sound you get from the exhaust when it cools.
Cheers

as for your fuel consumption .. when i first got mine and was driving around town, i too returned similar figure (9.2mpg). once the lead foot wears off a little (and the wife's driving combined), it's improved to an avg of high 12's.

Cheers.
I have only been driving for short trips since I have it so I expected it to be a bit thirsty. Just getting used to controlling the car at low speeds. I notice that creeping back/forwards whilst parking is a real delicate operation as the power engages.
We'll continue to wait for a tech wizard to answer the sound question

The only thing I always here after I've parked the car after driving is a whirring noise coming from the rear, right side, near the wheel. And then all of the sudden there's a pop, like a release of steam....and then the noise goes away.
I had the same noise on my 530xi, so I am going to assume it's not a coincidence.

the plot thickens.
I've got the wife taking the car to the dealers on Monday for some new clips for the windscreen trim. So I'll have my private investigator (no intentional innuendo) ask the service team.
So post up your guesses!

I have a 2004 525i and it makes a similar noise. I have left it parked for 30 mins while I was washing it and heard a similar noise. It almost sounds like a washer or fuel pump. It seems to do it when I open the doors. I have a feeling it is the trunk spring solenoid.
