The V8 R8 is horrid, I drove one and did a few runs with my buddy in his CLS55, and there was no push at all.

The V10 is sourced from the gallardo, so go with that! German styling + Italian motorwork = an amazing package!

AM V8 Vantage is available in the States - may be a great alternative to an R8. I'm not very familiar with the R8 itself, but I'd say you definitely need to drive both versions and see which one has better balance. In the twisties it will not be about the engine as much as it will be about the balance.

Case in point: Twisties test-drive of R8 vs Civic (yes, the Honda!)

I love the look of the R8. It's basically a gallardo without the name and inherent price tag. If I were spending 150k on a car I'd get a used 2006-2007 ferrari 430 and never look back. There's no downside. Looks, prestige, craftsmanship, pedigree, sound, power, handling plus someone else already took the massive hit on the depreciation and a Ferrari will never go out of style I wouldn't throw the R8 out of bed though
He's not asking about which of these car's he wants as a daily driver. He wants a fun weekend car. The R8 may look great, but it lacks in the fun department. The GT3 RS demands nearly as much attention as an R8 yet is much more fun to drive.

As for picking up the Ferrari. I've heard the maintenance on a Ferrari is just horrible and that a Lambo is a much wiser purchase choice. But then you go back to the whole AWD issue. Personally I'm thinking of picking up a used SLS in a couple years time as it has the most hp in its class and is RWD! Not to mention it is drop dead sexyyy

Except the Rossion Q1 performs just north of the 997 GT3 CUP for $100k.

If you care about performance, of course.
