I am looking at an '06 M5 - very late build date, so still under factory warranty for a few more months.
Two questions - do i recall folks suggesting to avoid '06 cars altogether, or just early build dates?
Also, anyone know the cost to extend the warranty at BMW to 100k?
Thanks, in advance.

06 ///M5
I have a late 05 build and thats considered early but I haven't had a single issue with the SMG for the 15,000 miles i've owned it. everything else has just been normal maintenance. As long as the car looks good I wouldn't not consider it just because of the build date.... seriously you never know lemons are farmed year round

I have very early 06 build.. and have had 0 problems related to SMG or transmission. Minor warranty issues related to trim(pillars, steering wheel) and replaced sunroof seals and rear window (defrost failure).
do you background checks, if everything is clear i'd go for it?
Whats the price points if you dont mind me asking?

I have an 06, M5 and no issues except CCC drive. What's important is to get your hands on the service records of the car, and that will tell you what's been happening with the car for the past 4 years. If you see too many issues then may not be worth it.

I have an mid 06 build did clutch, flywheel and full tranny but all covered under warranty. Look for either a CPO or buy the fidelity or EZ care warranty and you'll be set.

I had the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing all replaced under warranty at 36k miles (month or two ago) on my 06.

The '06 I am considering has 37k miles and factory warranty through June 2011, and I presume it could be extended, or another purchased?
This is the car I am considering:
http://www.eimports4less.com/detail-...d-5400681.html
Asking price is $42k.
As its 3 years old (or 3 years in service), its averaged 12k miles, which is less than I drive, but more than I would prefer.
Thoughts?

It looks great and price is excellent too @$40K. Oh, I noticed a few creature comforts are missing, like HUD, and Comfort Access. Good luck!
