I really like the new wheel color. Gives the ride much more character over black.

Here's few more pics of the refinished wheels.

I got only the centers painted (powdercoated), and the color is darker than an average silver, but lighter than gunmetal. The lip is finished with the 3M Scotchprint 1080 Brushed Steel vinyl ! I wanted to save the chromed lip just for case, and wanted to try how a vinyl wrap would work.

Here's few pics from the process of refinishing the wheels.

Eric did the cutting of the vinyl slices.

At first he wanted to take care of wrapping too, but we changed parts when we saw how much yellow hair he left to the adhesive hiha!

Finishing touch.

Eric likes. Me too .

Then we just had to rebuild the wheels. The paintshop KHCoating did great work with the center pieces.
I used Loctite 248 to secure the bolts. I tightened them each up to 22Nm.

I wanted different center caps, so I got the aluminium caps made at the local workshop, 5€ each. The decals I ordered from the www.tarratehdas.fi and they cost around 1,6€ each. Not bad for aluminium caps!

These center caps are little different than the originals. I wanted these to sit a bit (2-3mm) inside the wheel, not leveled with the wheel face.

Eric approves the finished product .

Sept 1, 2013

I decided to fix up my steering wheel a little, because there was some typical peeling. Nothing special was meant to do, only wrapping the two parts with a CF vinyl.

Overall look before.
DSC00479.jpg?t=1378058050

Typical peeling for BMWs from this era.

It always looks like "This ain't gonna ever work" at some point when I'm wrapping things !

But it came up allright after all.

I considered wrapping the little part in the middle, but didn't bother.
