The 2010 idrive is much better than the old one. Is it possible to install it into the 09 model since they have the same buttons. Has anyone done it and how much it might cost?

it is possible, your looking at 3k for parts and coding. coding alone cost $1000

They are right. US dealers cant do it. Im in the beginning process of the retrofit. If you want to read more about it check out this 37 page thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...159604&page=27
Like r9ndy mentioned is possible if you are willing to spend about $3k.

I would pay 3k to retrofit it. Since I got a new 09 model for 25k less than MSRP. I still save alot of money. I think everything else is the same except the Idrive from 09-10.
Thanks.

Where are you located? Send me a pm so i can give you more info. Since you have an 09 your retrofit is relatively simple.

I might be interested in your 09 unit if you go ahead with your retrofit. Does anyone know if this would work in a 2006 530xi E61?

It's definitely possible to retrofit the latest Navigation system (CIC) in an E6x.
Here is some more info if you are interested:
