I've become very reliant on PDC ... I now wish my car had SDC (Side Distant Control). Almost scraped a pillar backing out of a parking garage. It was not readily visible in my side mirror because it was painted the same color as everything else and just blended in! Told the parking manager to break out the yellow paint!!
i actually managed to do that a week ago

anyway, the pdc is very useful, as everyone else has already said, get it!

Wow, I am a little surprised tohear all the positive comments....I hate mine....well.....maybe that's a little strong...I am so used to back up cameras that I don't even want to use the PDC.....hell even my Gfriends 03 Acura MDX's back up camera is SOOOO superior to this....I need to find one to upgrade to without breaking the bank.......

Yeah, me too.. I have a back-up camera on my dually, so I can line up with my trailer tongue. I figured if my wife want's to know what's behind her, I can get a pretty stealth camera set up for less than $300. They have the camera's so tiny now, you can get a license plate frame with one in it. You can also get a rear-view mirror with a built-in monitor. I don't think she will however, as her last car (POS LR3) had a back up/distance sensor that would go off at stop lights, erratically on the freeway etc.. The car was a major load itself, and I have no doubt the BMW system would be better, but I think she's burned out on the sytem as a whole.

I find the rears useful but could do without the fronts. The blaring sound going into my garage every day, at an angle, makes me think I am ready to take out some bricks, and it's getting annoying!

In my friends 745 with PDC I recall an incident where he was using his PDC to pull into a parking stall, although he had room to pull forward as his PDC showed, it did not account for the height of the concrete stop, causing him to scrap the bottom of his front bumper on it (while the PDC was still showing yellow). Think that pretty much voided the whole point of having the PDC in both our minds..

Perhaps it is one of things that if you've never had/used it, then you'd never miss/need it...

No doubt! I've never backed over any small children, prior to or after having PDC...at least not yet.

But I still do like the rear PDC option, as I said above.

Yes, worth it. PDC has its limitations but with the high rear package shelf and the E60 big butt it's necessary.

I agree with ObD. The rear sensors are nice, the local parking in Dallas 75% compact car parking.
The system may be annoying at time but so would a scratched bumper
