Is the Park Distance Control option worth the cost? I have researched this site and there are few opinions on this point. Thanks.

Definitely worth it. I rely on it 100% now when I back up or park.

I've become very reliant on PDC ... I now wish my car had SDC (Side Distant Control). Almost scraped a pillar backing out of a parking garage. It was not readily visible in my side mirror because it was painted the same color as everything else and just blended in! Told the parking manager to break out the yellow paint!!
