Take her for a drive then pull into a parking lot. Engine oil level should be accurate within 10 minutes of normal driving. It's under 10 mins for my E90. My E60 has a dipstick

According to BMW, "The correct oil level is only displayed after approx. 2 minutes of engine operation (engine at operating temperature, engine speed greater than 0, vehicle stationary)."

Tried that. Doesn't work. I even reset the system and it still doesn't recalculate. I think after some sitting alone, by itself, in the corner of my garage after it's been bad, it decides to reset. Hahahahaha!

Yeah, this caught me out. My low level warning came on so topped it up with 1 litre from the dealer. Drove the car for a few miles and left it for about 3/4 hours and the level hardly increased so added another litre.... Then the level went over with a warning that there was too much oil. Wasn't an issue but got an oil service done to rectify it (was due anyway). This was in the first week of ownership....

Glad to hear all worked out. Now download an owner's manual - lots of good info there.

the way I've been driving recently I've been adding 1 quart every 500 miles so I'm stocked up on the oil! C, so your supposed to let the engine cool down before adding oil? I was unaware of that thanks for the heads up.
