Hey SF550 you sound like the same type of driver I am.. I love my 550I. It's a 6 speed manual and it gives me so much however I want more.. I drove a buddies M6 and it was the most memorable experience. I need that power in 4 doors. I had a Dinan 540I Stage 3 and I miss that sound and performance. Thanks I think you helped me make my decision. Now lets see if BMW will lease me one for what I want to pay. I'm thinking leasing is the best option for the M. Just tear it up for 2 years and give it back to the dealer and take a 90% right off every month...

I'm glad that it helped. I heard there was a special on leasing about 2 months ago for the m5. Not sure if it is still available. Let me know how it goes. Where are you located? I can introduce you to a friend in the Bay area for BMW that could help.

Or even if you just have questions for him.

Also they gave me 58k for my08' 550. The msrp was $68,900 but I had gotten $5000 off msrp when I bought it in october of 07'. So I did lose $5000 off the price right away, plus taxes! There were a lot of the 550's on the lot then and there was marketing support.

At the end of the day, I feel like I wasted an incredible amount of money over almost 4 years on the 545 and the 550. Over $10k of Dinan crap just to boost maybe 20 horses.

The mistake was driving the beast. I mean even at p400 it's better than any 545, 550, whatever. But when you hit p500 and the M button - there's no comparison.

Again, what a waste of time!! I should have just test drove the damn thing long time ago. Its my 2nd week with the M5, I've only driven it a few times - but I can tell you - I've only drive e60's everday for the past 4 years - my current car is an M and my next car will be an M.

And to all the mods out there - I'm done.....unless its for the M5!

Lol, only 1500 rpm ? Really ?
1500 rpm is not a LC!

It use to be... unless they changed it recently... almost positive US M5s are limited to 1500 launch... which is not that useful... cannot adjust it like Euro M5s from 3500 to 4500 rpms...

Its funny you say because when I was looking only manuals were available and i wanted an smg. I deliberatley didn't drive the M5 manual because I knew it would've been hard to pass up; that's how I got my M3 also.
Have fun!

I'm a new 2008 M5 owner, SMG. But I'm sure the launch control puts the revs at 4000. Just got back from M driving school in South Carolina and they did a launch control demo (all 2008 M cars there). The engine was definitely blipin' around 4000 rpm before it took off.

I'm going to try it tomorrow on the m5. I had the launch control in my 545i smg. It was awesome. Left a perfect set of tire tracks - and dropped around 4000 rpm

Thats good to know. I'm pretty sure the earlier 2006 M5s didnt allow that... check m5board.com... I guess they changed it now.

Yes, there is a video on YT that shows how to adjust the rpm with the cruise control lever or so .

I've seen it... thats a European spec car. US owners were complaining they couldnt do that before.

But I don't have the manual.
1st, very irresponsible of the previous owner not to leave the Owners Manual with the M.

2nd, here's an online version:
