True but the 335d is. Imagine what that sucker could do with an ECU remap.
Does anyone else smell burnt rubber?

My thoughts exactly. It was sooo easy to do that with the E39 540i Sport.

Yup, diesels don't sell well here in the USA. To clear out its 2009 335d inventory, BMW offered massive cash incentives this year -- something like $4,500.

There is no real incentive to buy them because the fuel is still cheap enough to justify a 335i which has more HP, is lighter, and costs less. The US consumer connects diesel with SUV.

A fully, fully, fully loaded 335d 4 door also costs $70,000. The thing is fast, but also weighs more than a 550i.
I hear the Merc GL 320 CDI sells really well. That's the car I am driving right now, and I must say, for 215HP the thing is crazy fast! The low end on that car REALLY gets you moving, up to about 40mph Then it's slow sailing haha. Yet, I think the GL matched with a diesel is the perfect combo, it has all the torque where you need it...in the bottom. Great for towing and you don't really need much power at the top since it's not like your gonna be driving the car speedy. The bottom range is amazing though, perfect for hauling the thing around corners haha I drive that 5000lbs sucker like my 545i

I just went on the BMW USA website and about the most I could option up the 335d was (checking every option) was $60,075. Not $70K but still a lot of $$$ for a 3 Series.

The weight of the 333d according to the BMW USA website is 3,825 lbs. Weight of the 550 with Steptronic is 3,968 lbs according to the BMW USA website. Hard to believe that the 335d is less than 150 lbs less than the significantly larger 550.

But I'd love the torque of the 335's motor.

Oops I meant the 650i

I went to the BMW website too to build my own and I made it to like $69,800 I guess it depends what leather and wheels you get.

You must have "bought" some of the ultra-expensive optional OEM wheels.

Hey guys, i wanted to know your guys advice. Ive recently owned a phoenix yellow E46 till some idiot on the frwy cut me off and slammed on his brakes and i ended up rear ending him and he didn't even have insurance. So I was trying to decide whether i should have my dad buy me an 335i or a 2006 M5 because they are both around the same value. The insurance will be under my parents name so around how much would the insurance be for the m5, and how much would gas cost for about a week i'd probably drive about a 150 miles a week, and the maintenance for this car would it cost up the butt just to service this beautiful car? So i'd like to know your guys advice on this because its a hard decision and sorry folks im not here to bragg, or anything. thanks!
Let me see if I understand this situation ... you're 17 (so maybe one year of 'legal' driving experience) and have had your first at fault accident. Ya see, even if another driver cut you off and braked abruptly ... you're responsible for maintaining control of your car.

I would recommend several hours of professional driving instruction (NOT Harry's driving school in a Ford Focus) maybe at one of the BMWCCA sessions in your area. Might help reduce your parent's insurance premiums too.

I'm saying this based on personal experience. When I graduated HS and bought my own small block fuel injected Vette I also got my SCCA ticket punched - all by the time I was 17 1/2 ... Trust me, it was a driving experience I'll remember forever and gave me a whole lot of respect for power in an automobile and what it can do for you when YOU are in control! And, when YOU pay hard-earned money for a car you'll treat it with considerably more respect.

+1 the m5 is a monster. Obviously your dad has fairly unlimited resources to be able to buy you an m5 at 17 but what's the point? What is there to aspire to? I would get the 335 and wait until you establish yourself and buy the m5 with your own money or at worst have your dad buy it for you later in life. To be honest there is not a 17 year old in the world that belongs in an m5. I'm 28 and own a transportation and logistics company and at times drove 100k+ miles yearly and my m5 still scares the crap out of me on occassion. The 335 is a great car and is much more age appropriate. ..............

Having said that get the m5 FTW you're gonna come off as a spoiled rich kid either way so you might as well make it worth it
