My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
M3 and the new 4-door and cabriolet versions of it,
can soon be ordered with the new Getrag Powershift autobox with two clutches.
The Getrag internal number is 7DCI600 and it's good for up to 750 Nm and has 7 gears.
BMW will probably name it M-DCT.
Dutch "Auto Telegraaf" tells that the premiere will be in Los Angeles Auto Show (16 - 25 Nov.)
or at the NAIAS in Detroit (19 - 27 Jan.).
The new gearbox will most likely also come the E60 M5 that will get more power in spring (US MY 09?).
Maybe soon even to other E60 and BMW models.
So there will not be a SMG gearbox at all.

This is likely to be the replacement for the SMG that we've all expected was coming. Hopefully it'll be available on non M-cars too in the future...

Looks cool - anyone with any experience of the VW system know how well it copes with an upshift followed by a quick downshift? I heard that it was possible to bamboozle the early examples...
750Nm rating, eh - might even be enough to put in an Alpina, then - would be an interesting alternative to the ZF auto box.

Good to hear!
A shop (or maybe two) in Italy put the SMG3 on a MT 550i, for a championship named "all stars" .
Just for wondering, I should call and ask details .

Not sure about the more recent system but the older one it gets confused and takes a little time to search for the gear. If it anticipates a upshift and you give it a double downshift it's slower than SMG... but if you upshift when it anticipates you to upshift its fast and smooth.
