Hey guys. Ive been a BMW for a couple of years now. Started with a 2004 BMW 325i Sedan which I love. My dad however has been a Chevy driver all his life. From old school Camaro's to Silverados and Suburbans. He is a big guy and really enjoys the big room a chevrolet has.

However after seeing how much I love my car and the passion ive had for it. Now he wants to jump into a BMW!

Right now he has a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban, fully loaded. He will finish paying it off in about 8 months. Me and my dad are best friends, and he knows how much I love M BMW series. So he is interested in getting a new M5. What he is worried about is the head room and confortablity for a big guy.

We are gonna go test drive one soon, unfortunately the closest dealer that has one in stock at the moment is 500 miles away

Also he is worried that the M5 will be getting replaced by a newer model soon. He loves being in the newest vehicle. I told him to get the new M3 but he said it would be too small.

What do you guys think? Will my dad have enough room in the M5? with the new 5 series will they be changing the M5 too?

Thanks any input would be appreciated!

Not trying to be funny here...but it might help to know how big he is? Height, weight? The M5 should fit someone up to 6'-3 in height comfortably...my co-worker got in bosses M5... Also, depending on how wide he is...it might be snug in the seats...but if he's an enthusiastic driver...I would prefer to be held in on curves than slide around.

He should be ok. I know some bigger people that own 5 series and it seems to work for them. Maybe you can update your info on where you're located and someone might be close to you and might be willing to let your dad try sitting in their car.

The M5 will be good for another 4 years... maybe 4.5 years

The M5 will not be "replaced" for many years. The new F10 body 5 series won't be around until 2009, and it will take a couple of years after that for the next M5 to arrive.

I'm 6'2, 210-ish. Perfect for me. I had a 330ci before the M5 and my head would touch the roof.

As for the model change, as everyone has said, we won't see the successor to the E60 (the "F10") until 2010. There will likely be very minor cosmetic changes and a few more options added until then, but the car will largely stay intact until the new car is in production.

If I was him, I would get a gently used M5 with less than 5K on the meter. The M5's drop like a rock in re-sale and you can get a really nice used one for 15-20K off of original sticker. Now if he has lots of reserve money, then that changes things.

I would rather get the nice used one and spend some extra money on some of the top upgrades for the M5.
