Hi all!

As some of you may have read in my recent topic in The Lounge, I went to the Nurburgring in Germany a few weekends ago. It was amazing!

We drove over to the Channel Tunnel near Dover and got the train from there to Calais in France. From there we all set off on our 400 mile or so journey to the track in and around a little village called Nurburg in Germany. It's nestled in the Eifel mountains and the track is quite simply, awe inspiring! And demands a lot of respect!

When we got there, it was 15.30 and we checked into our hotel, and went down to the track to watch the last of a track day that was currently running. That afternoon on the Saturday, the track opened for public use at 17.00. So in the meantime, we bought our laps, which are 20 euros each lap, and I decided it'd be a good idea to buy 12 laps! Haha!

The track opened at 17.00, so at that time, we all joined the queue of traffic waiting to go on also.

The first lap was scary as hell!! I had never been to the Ring before, and had only ever played it on the PS3, XBOX and other game consoles! I knew most of the 154 corners, but nothing had prepared me for the cambers on the corners, sometimes negative nor the sheer gradients of some of the uphills and downhills! Nor was I expecting to be overtaken quite so much by cars like MK2 VW Golf's! Or the new Fiat 500 ABARTH!! However, I was new to the Ring, and didn't know what to expect so was being UBER careful! I plodded around at a casual 80-100mph for the most part for the first 3 laps or so. When my confidence started to get better, and I started to piece together different sections and learn where the bad bumps where and crests etc I started to go faster.

By the 8th lap, I was hooning round at speeds up to 165mph in some places. I met a few other guys out there who had 3 Porsche GT2's and a GT3RS (all 997's). When they were on the track with me, we were all, bonnet to bumper (hood to trunk) round some parts. It was amazing! The experience was incredible, and the M5 was astonishing! I could NOT believe what it was doing. I was going through some CORNERS, at 140mph, and it barely made a tire squeel! Fell in love with it all over again!

The fastest lap I did, was a 8 minute 57 second lap, which I thought was pretty damn good! For those of you who don't know much about the track, it's 12.93 miles long, with 154 corners, and is recognised as being one, if not THE, most demanding and dangerous tracks in the world!

We are going back in a few months before the end of the season!!

Wear and tear wise, the car literally was brilliant! Only the obvious, tires and brakes, needed replaing after the trip.

For those of you who haven't been, but live in Europe and have thought about going, stop thinking, and DO IT!!!

Anyway! Enough chat, here are some photo's from the trip! Enjoy!

These my mates cars that came with me!
Subarau Impreza STI Spec C 2008
Mitsubishi Evo 9 tuned to 410bhp
4 Nissan R35 GTR's, 2 of which are running 570bhp!

And here are the photo's of me going round the Ring!

Oh, and if you go to the Ring, then this is THE place to eat! It's the restaurant at Pistenklauser, which is owned by Sabine Schmitz and her family. For those who don't know who she is, check her out on wikipedia and YouTube! She's an absolute legend at the Ring!
This is the food that they're known for. It's steak on a stone. Basically a ridculously hot stone, and a chunk of cow and you cook it yourself, and it's one of the most tender pieces of beef that I have EVER had!!

This as you may know is the Ring Taxi, which is quite obviously one of the best cars in the world!

Thanks Richard! I would have written more about it, but I got tired of typing, and I thought that people would probably get bored reading it too! It's a truly amazing experience. And you can go there without a car, as you can hire cars there! From the little Suzuki Swifts up to Lamborghini Gallardo LP

Thanks Gene! Yeah I know it's about time! I haven't been on here for such a long time, and now that things have calmed down a bit and slowed down, I'm back!

My personal quickest was an 8:57

A friend of mine Henry (R35 GTR, running 578bhp at the fly, with H5 LUM on the reg/tag) got an 8:41 and he was the fastest.

I don't know the quickest lap time set by an M5, but I do know that the Ring Taxi M5 goes round at 8:30, and that's the quickest they are ALLOWED to go round the track due to safety and insurance purposes I guess. However, Sabine Schmitz who is one of the Ring Taxi driver's, has apparantly said that the M5 is very capable of doing low 8 min laps...

I only found this out when I was there as I was speaking to one of the guys who works there as another Ring Taxi driver and he told me. So he thought I should be very happy with my lap time!!

I reckon an 8:15 or so would be a feasible time for the E60 M5. Truly amazing car on the track. Couldn't believe the cornering capabilities and levels of grip mine had! Honestly didn't know it could do THAT!

For those of you who have said you'd love to go there etc, it really is a very realistic "dream".

For those of you in the U.S, you can rent car's there. The best company to rent from is RSR Nurburg. Their website is: My link

Hotel accomodation is cheap dependant on where you stay. The majority of the hotels there are family run, and have very welcoming B&B's (bed and breakfast's)

Me and my mates thought we'd splash out in the new hotel there which is a 4* with casino and nice bar. It was built last year, and to be VERY comfortable, that is THE place to stay. Also, for those of you who are intending on taking your car there, it has an underground car park facility so your pride and joy is perfectly safe.

Most of the small B&B's have garages with all the tools you'd need to fix cars, replace brakes, suspension etc etc...

The cost of the hotel we stayed in was £300 for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast rate, which considering the rooms and the hotel was VERY reasonable I thought. The site for that hotel is: My link

When it comes to prices per lap, it's 20 Euro's per lap. However you get bulk buy discounts, PLUS they last 12 months. You get a credit card type card which you swipe over the panel at the entrance barrier to the track, and you're off.

I've grazed the minimum amount of stuff you need to know about the "Green Hell", but if anyone has any question or queries, then pleas feel free to email me or ask on here so everyone else can benefit from it!

A really good site to get ALL the information you could possibly need is: My link VERY helpful indeed!

Hope some of this helps those of you who are interested in going, and for those of you who aren't, hope it was at least an interesting read!!

If you go, enjoy the "Green Hell" that is, The Ring!!
