It's clear to me that his problems with SMG are simply a matter of his "SMG rookie" nature. It's going to be quite some time before the typical reviewer will actually have enough seat time to give an accurate report of how well an SMG works. Most of these guys are trying to turn it into an automatic or manu-matic/tiptronic type tranny.
What they should do at these events is allow the reviewer to ride along with a BMW representative who knows his/her way around an SMG. They could then demonstrate how it can be shifted to anyone's liking. They could explain the virtues of this technology and help demonstrate why this transmission shouldn't be compared to an automatic. It's also important to demonstrate the downshifts because, as we all know here, it's all about the downshifts!

My Ride: 2004 BMW 545i 6-Speed (Black and Tan)
When will this beauty be available for purchase in the USA ?
I have a leased 2004 545i 6-speed sport package (Jet Black/Tan) that I LOVE so far ....but in about 26 months I will need to make a decision on what I do/get next .
Anybody know the estimated curb weight on the e-60 M-5?
TIA
