I was at Savage in Ontario. The deal breaker for me right now is the poor  gas mileage i've read about on another thread hear. I drive too many miles per week and need at least 300 miles per tank.
I hear ya. As it is, I'm getting 17miles/gallon and that's from an even split of freeway vs. city driving. I believe the window sticker on an M5 reads 12miles/gallon in the city but I'm willing to bet the actual figure is less.

To be fair, however, the M5 was never intended to be an economical car.

BMW dealer in Greenwich CT has a black/black M5 sitting for 3 months. They will GIVE that car away, as it is ready to start snowing in the east. They have a black/black M6 too, same 3 months.

Buy a used one with a few Kmiles. Save bunch of money! Or just wait until 2008 or so until all issues sorted out and supply builds up.
And no gas guzzler tax for a used one.

I saw that M5 at Valencia, and I couldn't believe the mark-up either. Then I remembered that I was standing in Valencia BMW. I bought my first BMW there, a 2000 328ci. After my lease was up I wanted the m3 and being a repeat customer the manager at the time told me that he would lease one to me without the markup. The next week a steel grey m3 was delevered and I went down to make the deal. As soon as I walked in the door the manager looked and me and said, 'This car is to beautiful and I can't sell if for less then 10k over sticker." That's when I left and found South Bay BMW.

They took 3k off my e46 m3 and when it came time for my m5 I was able to get close to 8k off! Great guys down there.

It's a shame because Valencia BMW is 5 seconds from my house. OH! I almost forgot, when I was looking for an M5 Valencia had 2 black ones in the back covered in dust. I told the sales guy that I was looking for a grey or silver and he said that he would try and trade one of these for a silver or grey. Called me 15 minutes later and said that these were the only m5's in the entire country and I would have to settle with one of the two on the lot or I should look into another car. In the meantime I called south bay and sure enough that's where I found my SilverstoneII and picked her up the next day! Then I drove stright to Valencia BMW and made sure the sales guy saw me.

Valencia BMW are a bunch of assholes. They're service department is alright, kind of.
