Valencia BMW in California currently has an Interlagos Blue M5 with black interior carrying a MSRP of $91,000+. I didn't see what the options were in this particular vehicle. I do, however, remember that it is an SMG tranny without the HUD.

And now for the deal breaker....next to the window sticker is a smaller sticker from the dealer indicating "Dealer mark-up = $20,000". I should have taken a picture of this with my cellphone's cam but was too disgusted at the time and walked away. I'm sorry but that is bullshit.

I'm sorry but what does the mark-up mean? I'm guessing that the selling price of it is $111, 000 instead?

Yes. Basically, it's $20K in their pockets directly, based on supply and demand.

I was in a Bay Area BMW dealer 6+ months ago and they had a $15K markup but the salesperson immediately indicated that MSRP was possible, so I would be shocked if premiums cannot be avoided.

The dealer probably figures they will get lucky and have a sucker walk in the door.

Hmm, does it only happen to m5, or also to other models? I've never seen such mark-up here in Seattle BMW

Yes this is nothing new. Dealers will add a "mark-up" to whichever vehicle they want to. There are no restrictions from the manufacturer. This is money that goes straight to the dealer and perhaps a good chunk to the Client Advisor (I guess "Salesman" has become a dirty word).

Perhaps the Seattle dealership you're familiar with doesn't do it or maybe you just missed a few of them.

That's crazy. My dealer has two on the lot they can't get rid of.

My dealer's policy is MSRP, no additional mark up......MSRP isn't exactly cheap!! Yeah...the $20k bump is pretty much extortion.......I know you could shop around and get a better deal....if you had to leave the state to find one, you could probably save enough to pay for trailering the car back to California.......we were just talking about this last weekend at the Central California meet and greet.......
