A straight line head to head would be fairly close, as it's known that the M5 stoxk 0-60 is closer to 4.5 in the real world, however i truly believe that the M5 would have the edge in real world day to day driving, rapid cross country & on the track as i feel the M5's chassis will still be more accomplished that the AMG, as will the suspension & brakes.
AMG's are renowned for straight line but one they deviate from that game, they get into an awful mess.
That said an article in this weeks AutoExpress made reference to a Brabus Monster (seriously that's what it's called) & it's a fully blown bi-turbo 63 with 715BHP & over 1000nm, capable of hitting 60 in 4 seconds dead & limited to 215MPH. Now that would be a proper monster.

I suspect you're absolutely right but from the reports and reviews I've read on the E63, AMG seems to have paid more attention to the steering and handling side of things this time around.

With all this said you have to remember that the E63 is bi-Turbo'd and the M5 is still N/A with the amounts of power the M5 produces magine what it could do with a Super Charger or Turbo added..

Its not. they're N/A. now.
I posted the same thing in Znods thread before too... there seems to be A LOT of mis-understanding with Mercedes New AMG engine. Its not supercharged anymore... nor bi-turboed for the V12... X 65 AMGs...
Theres actually a few other articles that pop up if you search for "Natually Aspirated Mercedes AMG Engine"

Also from roll-ons the M5 is the clear winner.
