Yep. The original plans for the M5 didn't include a manual but BMW gave in after all the pressure from American buyers so they put in the manual in MY 2007. This is a key reason why a lot of people say that this M5 was meant for SMG and not a manual. At first, you couldn't fully disengage traction in the manual cars either but that was later fixed with a software upgrade.

so much hate for the manual on here. While I do prefer my SMG to the manual M5 (I test drove both), I believe that the manual is still a great choice for those who prefer it. And, you don't build an engine for a transmission (as some have said in this thread), actually it is quite the contrary, the transmission is built (geared) for the engine.
