I am looking into buy a pair of M5 seats for my 530. By searching past postings on M5 seats I am a bit confused. It appears that there are three types of M5 seats; standard, multi function and multi function with ventilation. Do all three seats have active side bolstering or do they only come with multi function seats? And, can a multi function seat have a solid headrest (not the pillow type on the comfort seat)?

Many thanks?..

Hello Chuck

I believe that only the Multi-Function seats have the active side bolsters. I have an 08 M5 with the multi function seats (part of the Executive Package option here in Canada) with the ventilation option. The standard sport seats are a little firmer and feel like they have higher seat cushion side bolsters, similar to the M3, and overall a more "buckety" contour. As far as I know the headrests come only in one configuration. Maybe they can had with other on special (Individual) custom order? Best to consult the dealer of BMW.
Hope this helps a bit.

Option # 456 Seating ( You must purchase Full Merino Leather also #453 Seat ventilation)
20-way Pwr Multi-contour Front Seats -inc: Articulated Upper Backrest| Passenger Seat Memory| Active Head Restraints| Adjustable Side Support| Adjustable Thigh Support

Option # 4MA Seating (Merino Leather not required)
Front M Multi-function Comfort Seats -inc: 20-way Pwr Heated Front M Multi-function Comfort Seats| Active Backrest Width| Adjustable Upper Backrest Width| 4-way Pwr Lumbar| Active Headrests (n/a W/453 Ventilated Seats)

Third seating option would be Standard Sport Seats

I hope this provides some help.

Are the standard M5 Sport Seats the same ones that go into the rest of the E60 seriers cars?
