I am very close to purchase of my first BMW. Was ready to pull the trigger on a 545 but then heard about the new M5 coming. I am totally a horsepower guy and decided to take a few weeks to consider my options. I would really appreciate your opinions/knowledge @ the following:

1. When can an order be placed for an M5 in SoCal?
2. What is a "fully loaded" M5 going to sticker for? (no info on the BMW web site!)
3. What is a reasonable price to pay? ( I had a deal worked up for a 545 but lost it when I didn't make the comittment. )
4. How long will I have to wait?!?
5. What else do I need to consider?

Also, I'm fortunate enough to be able to write a check for the car, finance it OR lease it. My business allows me to write off car expense too... SoCal Real Estate is AWESOME!!!... but I need solid advice @ what is best way to own. I will keep the car for the duration of the warranty but not longer.

Thanks to all!

Welcome aboard, Wart !

If you are looking for HP, you should order the M6. It'll have the same engine, but about 40-50 HP more!

I think you can allready put your name on the list for the M5, maybe allready for the M6 (unsure about the 6).

The fully loaded M5, including Individual, will be close to 140.-? over here in Germany. I don't know about the possible options in the US.

Here is the German pricelist:

And the German catalogue:

1. now
2. around $100K fully loaded
3. list
4. at least 18 months
5. In 4 door sedans, I'd look at the AMG Merc's E55, CLS, the new Audi S6, the Maserati Quattroporte, possibly the Jaguar XJR. The M5 is not as luxurious, but will blow them all away performance wise.

I should have added... I drove the 545i with SMG and won't buy a car without SMG. I'm hooked!

And the SMG on the Emmy is waaay better!
Different than the one on the regular E60's, and you shift up with the right paddle and down with the left paddle. On top of that you get M-drive! Your HUD will display RPM and gear, plus speed in m-drive...

So... I can get a loaded 545i for around $64K... is the M5 really worth the extra $35K?... oh yeah and the extra 12 month wait? Me thinks it'll be a 545i. I just wish it felt like it had a little more torque. Any chance there will be a performance chip soon?

I don't know. That's up to you, your decission.
I wanted the Emmy, but stay with the 545, since I NEED comfort seats for my back and WANT active steering.
However, I dunno about the possibility of chips for the 545... There is a 550 to come, so maybe not. They had one on the market, but it didnT work...
Hamann offers engine tuning, hardware-tuning, for 25K net. It boosts the 545 up to over 400 HP...

Hi Wart, If you don't mind, what was your really good deal for a 2005 545 (percent over invoice figure would be great!)

Thanks!
