It's funny what you get used to and then miss once you don't have it. The tightness and solid feel of the M5 is lost in the 535xi, obviously...with no sport suspension and 17" rims. I was also missing 4 cylinders and 200HP, which I'd like back! cool.gif However, I found the 535 to be quicker than I had expected...very zippy! It was also nice to drive a straight auto for a day. As for the electronic shifter...I don't like the flimsy, "pseudo" feel, however the LCI tranny is twice as fast as the Steptronic...which I did like. So, you lose the solid feel of the step, but gain the faster gear shifts. Personally, I'd have to spend the $500 on the sport paddles to like this arrangement.

Next stop.....pick up the M5 Friday, post 1200 mile break-in! I'll be removing the charcoal filters ASAP and installing BMC filters, then RPI scoops. I can't wait to unleash "The Beast" tomorrow! evil.gif

Here's an interesting turn of events, after I dropped off the loaner to get my M5 back after its 1200 mi service. It just goes to show how little not only the SA's know, but the service manager himself!

pound for pound i think m5 is the best car bmw makes, it is what bmw stands for, i bought the 535 cause it came in an xi that i could drive all year. winters in philly can be rough so i need all wheel drive, plus i can mod the engine to get it a lot faster, still not an m5, but but very good sub. If i could afford an m5 plus an everyday car i would have bought one but i cant devote that kind of money on cars right now and to have one sitting in the garage, when i pay this off i might consider something for the garage, like a convertable m3. but the m5 is awesome and a complete different car, all bmws are great though and we all enjoy all of them, women and cars are a lot a like theres always a faster one or a sexier one, love the one ur with chances are theyll treat u better than the other one anyway.

This is something of an academic exercise for us in the UK anyway as the 535i isn't available over here. If you want a fast petrol-driven E60, the M5 is the only realistic option we have. Not that I'm complaining. Last weekend I drove fro London to Normandy and back. 600 mile round trip, and despite from the mindblowing fuel usage, I loved every minute of it.

Just as information to your supercharge plans. (I gone through it myself when I was picking up a suitable engine to my race car )
The N62B44 crankshaft is not a forged piece. It is in fact a regular molded crankshaft (Odd that BMW put such low end parts in that engine) This means that if you would like to have about 500hp & 700Nm and sleep safe at night, you?ll have to go with a forged crank.
If you do so, take the opportunity to stroke the engine as well.

A complete custom rotary kit, suited for some real power, with a DKE crank, JE pistons and Verdi or Pankl similar conrods will set you back for about 7000euro, just in rotary parts.

After that, it is the block rigidity that will set the limit.
My personal believe is that anything above ~750-800Nm (Pmax) will need steel cylinder liners to avoid flex and blow through.
I simple calculation will give you hp at any given rpm with this Torque max.

Next step, issues like not getting the head bolt threads stripping out of the block when cylinder preasure hits Pmax, flexing heads, colapsing combustion chambers, cooling efficency above exhaust valves etc etc.... And unfortunally I have not seen any real power attempts with this machine, that will tell the limit.
