The M5 is superior to the 535i in every category except price and gas mileage. I love my 535i but it's no M. No modification can make it so.

Unless you've driven an E60 M5 (or M6), you will never quite understand the size of the actual gap that exists between the 535i (or even the 550i) and the M5 in terms of all aspects of performance. It's like day and night, and I have driven quite a few E60 5's and an M6.

Amen to that. BTW, I've discovered why the M5's gas mileage is so awful. It's because at every possible opportunity I'm dropping down to a low gear and hitting it just to hear that noise. It is truly awesome and incredibly addictive. I've owned many V8s and sixes over the years but as good as some of them sound, there is nothing like this.
