Just broke my car in (now at 5050 km). I've been doing on average around 12,3 MPG on the harder driven stretches and around town and about 16,2 mpg on the highway. With more mileage on the clock the car begins to show somewhat better mpg's. For instance I drove this morning for about an hour at around 85 - 95 mph and the tripcomputer showed a much better 19 mpg. All in all though sheer driving pleasure comes at a price... :'(

mpg = 235.3 / (liter per 100 km)
Here is a table that I calculated for the published mileages for the M5
Code:
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? mpg ? ? ? ? ? liter/100km ------------------------------------------------- Urban ? ? ? ? ? ?10.3 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 22.7 extra-urban ? ? ?15.9 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 14.8 composite ? ? ? ?23.1 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 10.2

If you are concerned about gas mileage, there are many other cars that you should be considering.

You don't buy an M5 only for a few hours of fun per week! If your pocket can take it to have the m5 as a daily car, than that's another story! But i for sure wouldn't buy that car even if i had the money to drive it out of my garage only form time to time because the gas is too expensive and the car is an gas gulper.
I would take an m3 csl or smth like that for all the fun!
BTW i heard both the M3 CSL and the M5 while tested at top gear and I FELT IN LOVE with that straight 6. It sounds better IMO than the v10.
M i the only one to think like this?

[/quote]It definitely matters if you want to decide how much you
want to "pay" to enjoy the "play".
If the gas price goes up, say, 50% from $3/gal to $4.5/gal - which is very
likely, in my opinion - your monthly gas expense would go up
apporx by $200 (@ 10mpg, 15000 annual miles).
I like to see a number like that before deciding if it is a
"pure play" or a "pure pay" or somewhere inbetween....
