I just ran across this article. It appears that US dealers are pushing for a Manual transmission as an option to SMG.

I think AutoWeek made a reference to the 6-speed, as well, in the last issue.

M5 will lose quite a number of sale if no manual is offered in US. This will make them revisit the transmission drawing board.

Personally, I don't think a manual will be introduced. Some people at BMW AG are hemming and hawing. BMWNA are saying yes, but I haven't heard the word from corporate yet.

Europeans seem to prefer manuals much more than Americans do. Many U.S. dealers won't order ANY manual 5 series cars for their inventory. Odd that we'd get a manual when Europe doesn't.

Umm, how long is the wait now for a US M5? They could send over all M5's painted puce and flourescent pink and they would still sell every one they make...

Why would anyone want a manual instead of SMG? I very much doubt that ANYONE would be able to better the SMG with a manual.

thanks gyus for repost

anyway it is up to you and the US to decide... for me as European also was strange but seems true, maybe they will have it as an option so they can burn engines better.-)

Great point. The wait is about 2 years if you get on a list today. They're not going to introduce a manual as long as they're selling all the M5's they can make.
