M5 or B5
#22
OK, nobody throw things at me please, but I'd rather have the B5 for the sole reason that I prefer automatic. I've never owned a stick, so not very good with them at all. If the M5 came in auto, I'd be all over it, but looks like I'll have to suffer through with a new 550 in a couple of years.

The US M5 is suppose to come with a SMG and a manual Transmission a year or two later. If I had the choice I would get the SMG

Forgive me, but not familiar with the B5. From the threads I would guess it is an Alpina designed 5. No?
the m5 ships currently with an SMG transmission. SMG and nothing else. No stick. No auto (because that would defy the whole M concept). Alpina have no such concept (apparently), and they thought the step was better. so they took the M5, shoved in a step, made a better car (this can be argued), shoved in what might be the coolest looking interior (bar aston martin) ever made, and sell them for lots, and lots, and lots.
and losts, of money. Ill take one any day. I think i read something about them pushing out like 8 cars a year. that makes you unique?.
they didn't take an M5 and put Step on it. The engine is a 4.4L. Apparently they rebuild the bottom of the 545 unit and then supercharge it.
But you're right, Alpina = more exclusivity. The break is 500. Not sure what the Torque fig is.
