I like both cars a lot. But, Japanese please. The Japs (a pejorative) are the guys that bombed Pearl Harbor; those guys don't exist any more.
It's not like the Germans never bombed Americans. I don't think WWII is a valid reason for buying/not buying, although I know some people still feel this way, my father who served in WWII is considering a Lexus after years of problematic Cadillac ownership. If we based our decision on on past wars we would all be driving French/British/American cars and would not buy Italian/German/Japanese. Most cars today are made from parts sourced globally anyway.

I think you missed his point completely.
He is inferring that using the word "Jap" as a slang to generalize the Japanese population is deragotory.
Furthermore, he also disagreed about the comment made suggesting that the BMW looked like a Japanese car. In fact, I believe it to be the other way around.

don owns a Mazda. For what it's worth, I've owned a Toyota. You're picking on the wrong poster. We are on your side.

Thanks Centurion. Yes, Member545, you missed my point. No problem. I've been waging a very polite campaign against the use of pejoratives, etc., on our discussions. I have objected to referring to technicians as monkeys (the one using monkeys meant grease monkeys and didn't realize that technicians might not like to be referred to as (grease) monkeys), to valet parking personnel being referred to as idiots, and to Japanese being referred to as Japs. ~{;^) I don't remember disagreeing "about the comment made suggesting that the BMW looked like a Japanese car, etc." But, no matter one way or another. We have owned a Toyota Celica, 3 Corolla Wagons, a Toyota Supra, a Toyota Camry, an Acura, a Lexus 300, and 3 Mazda RX-7's. Oh, I also objected to being referred to derogatorily as a typical American. I follow Thumper's mother's rule (or was it Bambi's mother). "If you can't say somethin nice about somebody, then don't say nothin at all."

Boy, it really amazes and frustrates me how cheap super cars or any cars for that matter is in USA. It's so unfair that motorist in Malaysia with GDP a fraction of US have to pay an arm and a leg for our rides.

Just for you info, my standard e60 525i cost me US$105K without insurance. Yes, I can get an M5 plus have change for many upgrade accessories! When converted to our currency it cost 4 times more! Yes, I tried to rob a bank to buy my car...now I'm limbless!!

Meanwhile, I'll continue to envy you guys with the M5, 550, 545, etc, etc...

Oh, okay. Hard to read sarcasm sometimes. I thought you were pointing out the pejorative to make sure we understood you were being derogatory. Emails get misinterpreted all the time. I have had 5 Hondas before this car. I switched after I had to push my brand new 1988 Mustang GT by myself and jump in while moving and pop the clutch at 2:30am after I stopped for gas alone in the middle of nowhere.

[/quote]First, I was saying please say "Japanese." Then, I was pointing out that the word, Jap, is a pejorative that was used during and after WWWII to refer to our enemy. Finally, I was saying that they are not our enemy any more. All stated a tad obliquely.

I thought you were saying "oh please, Japanese" as in oh please they are terrible cars, then when you said they don't exist anymore, I thought you were saying "they are dead to me" Mis-read the whole thing. Don't want to hi-jack the thread anymore. It's late here and I am going to sleep. Have a nice Thanksgiving.
