Okay so a warning keeps coming up on my friends M5, it says "Increased Emissions" and the engine light is on. Just wondering if that is because for the first few days he drove it a little more aggressively than normal. Also the car wasn't driven for a while before he purchased it. So is it due to out of the norm driving? Because on my brothers STi, that's what happens if you drive it like a maniac. And don't worry guys, he hasn't been doing anything dumb with it. I've been with him about 70% of the time he drives it and I haven't seen anything idiotic. Yes he accelerates hard at times but that's only onto highways.

Should he be concerned?

Would you advise taking it in?

First of all dun stress yourself for doing anything stupid. We here do not judge anyone unless they really step outta line like a lil friend in taht previous post. Lol.. Anyway yes incresed emissions should be a concerned. Go to a local shop and get the OBD read out, the car must have some codes, give us a codes and the description and we can enlighten you a bit. Could be bad Oxygen sensors, really depends on the mileage too. But increased emissions just doesn't comeon for nothing pal. Gud LUCk.

There could be a bunch of reasons for this... mine was due to a failed fuel vent valve (they change both since its not worth dropping the tank again if the other goes bad. cost around 560 at the dealer for the repair. My P code was an evaporative system failure

It only has close to 33K km's on it. So I don't think it's a mileage issue. I'll get him to get it checked out and when he gets the codes, I'll let you guys know.

i have the increased emissions light still after doing several things.. i.e replaced Pressure regulating valve caps, new thermostat, cleaned MAF sensor... i ran some diags and it came back with a bad fuel Ventilation control valve. im working on doing this next.. not sure if its just ordering the parts and replacing but i might give it a shot
i would recommend checking the error codes

Okay so the plan is to take the car in next week and if the OBD reveals a serious issue, it'll be fixed right away but if it's something like an O2 sensor, then we'll get it fixed when he can afford having the car in the shop. Just wondering which issues are considered serious?

Sorry about being such a noob but we've never dealt with M5's and we don't want to mess the car up because look at it .

I had my engine warning light come on so I had O'Rielys auto parts read the fault codes which were:
P2297, P2298.

Mentioned that it also was running rich.
I have a 2008 535xi with 76,000 miles with oil change 50 miles ago.
