e60 M5 overheating?

Hey,
I just made a 400 mile trip with the M it was fine on the trip just needed a quart of oil during it which I put in it when the car asked for it no overheating, no errors, smooth ride.
next morning i get in the car and start it and get a burnt smell kinda coming out of the air vents that sorta passed. after i let the car warm up for 2-3 min, I pull out and drive out of my development.
40 seconds later, I get a Charging malfunction in idrive with a battery in the middle display.
about a minute after that I get a message stating engine temp high drive in high gear to avoid overheating. 20 seconds after that the message changes to Engine temp too high pull vehicle over and shut engine off. car automatically went into D mode and wouldn't come out of it either.
I pull over, check to see if theres anything smoking/leaking but nothing. engine fans stay on for a long time after the car is off and key is out.
I get back in the car and start it after about 10 min and within 45 seconds i get the same set of errors in the same order.
I just dropped it off at the dealership but do you guys have any idea what i'm looking at here? anyone with a similar situation? cant find much info out there on e60's overheating or the charging malfunction.

Sorry to hear that. I have not read of any overheating problems on M5Board so this is a first. Have you posted on there to see if anyone else has had a similar experience?

was just about to do that lol, crossing my fingers! I'm gonna be in suspense until monday thats that hard part!

Most likely a belt problem. Slipping or broken belt would give you the burning smell and the altenator would not charge properly giving you that alarm and water pump would not operate properly giving you overheating condition. It is most likely serpentine belt which connects to these components.

this car does have dinan pulleys, maybe something to do with how that was installed?
It is very unusual for serpentine belts to stretch but if a pulley is misaligned the belts can easily jump off since the pulleys don't have the deep grooves / edges like the V-Belt pulleys of old.

guys it was the belt thank god.
although they are charging $640 for the belt labor and alignment of pulley's/tensioner
prob could get this done much cheaper at an Indy shop but i'm in a rush and need it back asap so i just told them to do it
