M5 owners, can you share how do you lock the boot? On standard e60, it is there but on the M... it is covered by the lid finisher kit. Can you enlighten me?

The boot is locked either with the remote, with the central lock button inside the car, or by manually turning the key fully to the lock position in the driver's door key hole. Just like the passenger door, the boot doesn't require a separate key hole.

In case of total electrical failure, you can open it by a pull-wire beneth the rear seat!

what i know on current non M e60, if you keep the lock key slot at 3o'clock position, one can not open the boot through the boot lid handle switch even though the central lock is release on the dash board.
The reason i am asking is that the M5 has a boot lid finisher covering the boot therefore the boot lock is hidden. I intend to instal the boot lid finisher to cut down airflow stagnation causing excessive dust build up due to M-tech rear diffuser design. I believe the M5 has a flush boot lid for a purpose and not just aesthetic.

So in short...
key slot position "-" dead lock position; boot can be opened only with remote key
key slot postion "I" boot can be opened with remote key; boot lid lock handle switch.

cidair- if you own non M before, is this your experience?

I have the M5 trunklid finisher installed on my 545. See my signature links for pics.

I can tell you that the trunklid finisher does little or nothing to reduce dust buildup on the rear bumper and tail region of my vehicle.

I bought the finisher purely for aesthetic appearance... I think it looks better. I think the finisher on the M5 is purely cosmetic.

I was told by a BMW technician that it actually helps creating a good airflow to help the diffusor to eject the air from underneath the car ( basically to get the temp down on the rear diff ). The diffusor on the M5 is completely different from the other E60 M package cars.
