Left my car sitting for a week while on vacation. Then took it out for a quick run to the local bagel shop. Couple hours later I push start and get Engine malfunction, and DTC Malfuction, and reduced power with a 4,000 rpm rev limit. Any one have any ideas?
My battery is old, maybe it could be something as simple as that. But I hooked up my OBD II reader and it showed error u1141.
previous to this the car has been problem free until about 3 months ago when it started giving me high battery drain messages every once in a while on the first startup of the day.
if anyone has any input on this type of problem lemme know.

My Ride: 09 M5 (E60) Interlagos blue, Silverstone interior, with cold weather package. Adaptive Xenon headlamps and adaptive brake lights, hud, comfort access. Comfort seats, basically fully loaded.
Invalid or Missing Data for Gateway U1141. Got a guy who can def solve this issue. He does most computerized work for my bmw customers also. Is your car under warranty or not? Did you ever change the battery? It could only be that. Plus disconnect the battery or just erase the trouble code with the scan tool, that should put your car outta the limp mode.

I had a similar situation and it ended up being the module and servo-motor for the AWD... forgot what it is called - basically, the differential. But I'd go with Shezmon's advice first and eliminate things from less expensive to more. When I had this problem, I had a feeling a was getting screwed by the shop I took the car to. I didn't care, because they found - supposedly - some moisture under the front passenger foot-well area and my insurance actually covered it. But to this day I wonder if that shop pulled one over on me and my insurance.
One advice, I guess, I can definitely give you here: DO NOT go to Bay Diagnostic on Gravesend Neck Rd. in Brooklyn. But that aside, start with the battery, also check the output on the alternator. Although, since you're saying this started after you left the car sitting for a while, I'm guessing it is the battery, or some kind of moisture damage or smth like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it doesn't it have to be reinitialized by a BMW center? (see cover of battery in the trunk, it says something similar to that)

Yes they have to recode everything, but that an option for him. Because his problem could be because of some battery error in the readings.

I left it connected and it just finished charging... took a pretty much a full 24 hours to reach full charge. Hopefully that was the only issue. I'll report back but the battery was definitely running low, so i'm crossing my fingers.
