I went to the rockingham race track to test the 1 series about 2 months ago. Was a good day. My daughter (8 yrs old) got to drive a mini (dual controls with a qualified instructor).

I got a drive round the track in a 120d. Then we went for a road test. I was up for the 1 series, but it didn't have the space I needed.

Salesperson was shocked when they called for a follow-up call and I told them I didn't want a 1 series, but wanted to buy a 5 series!

I've never looked back. Can't wait to pick up that E60!!

AND IF THERE'S A TEST DRIVE OF THE M5 IN THE UK AND I'M NOT INVITED!!! THEN I WILL MAKE ENEMIES (FOR LIFE!!). I PROMISE YOU!!!!

in the UK not all dealers get allocated M'cars, was speaking to my dealer yesterday and he said all the M'car UK dealers have been told their allocation is 4 cars each next year, and most dealers have waiting lists of 20 cars or more for the M5. I was hoping for a test drive next year in the UK but I get the feeling there will be no cars available to test in.

will have to find one of the lucky owners and see if they are open to bribes

Surely the point here is not that cars are not "available" for test drive, but that having sold their allocation 5 times over, they don't *need* to provide test drives.

I bought my first M3, which was the first of several BMW's, just because I took the then-new e36 M3 for a test drive "just to see if the car was as good as the magazine articles said it was". I bought it that day, and the rest is history. Now if only history can repeat itself...
