Im heading to take a test drive and look at an m5 monday and was wondering what kind of wearable items or anything specific i should look out for. It only has 3900 miles on it, but thought i'd ask.

Can't wait to get this beast

Good luck on the purchase. You will smiling like a butcher's dog once you feel the M power!

Check the front-end bumper area for any stone chips or scrapes along the underside. And check the windshield for any chips, etc. These are some of the first, obvious places I'd look.

I must say.. the M button is the sexiest piece of engineering i've ever touched. Im addicted already. Went down to test drive and bought it today.. Im a proud M5 Owner!!!..

Get it Tuesday. Ohhh yea

The guy was telling me something about the car remembering when it went into the redline specific with km's and records it in the cars memory. That this is information that is accessable through your BMW dealer. Is this true??

The first thing I would look at, if you can get the car up on a lift, is the rear diff. The condition of the rear diff will tell you how hard the car was driven by the previous owner.

Ya.... on that..

When you shift do you feel any firm... i dont wanna say clunking because thats not what it is.. but you can feel a little bump in the shifting. Is this because I havent set the setting for the shifting properly or just how it shits? It didnt seem like it was doing any harm, but who knows.

THe thing drove pretty amazing.. love the seat bolsters and the beauty "M" button ahaha

When I drive in M mode, which is a lot of the time these days, I have it set to:

1. S-6
2. DSC OFF (MDM if it's wet out)
3. EDC - Normal (I'll put it in Sport, if the roads are really smooth and I don't have my wife with me).
4. P500 Sport
5. Active Seats - Sport

The shifts are quite jerky in M mode, but this is normal. They're not clunky, but you can without a doubt, feel each gear being popped into place as you make each shift, when you drive the car for the first time. If you're not familiar with it, it's quite abrupt at first and might feel awkward. However, as you get better at driving the car and it becomes more natural, your shifting becomes better, but it will always be that jerky if you're gunning it. Once you look in your rear view mirror and see how far back everyone is, you really realize how insane the car really is.

Ya i couldnt really test her out today... but when i get her on tuessday im sure ill spend countless hours getting to know how this beast works.... THe M settings were whatever the guy had them from before, so im sure they can be tweaked.
