Yes in Europe, the E60 M5 came out as a 2005 model year.
My suggestion to the OP is if you know the car and the current owner well and believe that it was well maintained then you should be set but check to see if their extended warranty (if they had one) would carry over to you or not. These cars can get pretty pricy to maintain/fix after the warranty is over.

Ya i know.. i have a 05 production M5. But he was saying as eary as 03.
"Regular" e60s such 525s, 530s, etc. can be found in some markets as Model Year 2003.
M5s can be found in some countries as Model Year 2005.
Now we return to the OP's topic, already in progress...

well it depends, if the friend is giving you a really good price then it can be worth it. My friend just bought an 03 E39 M5 with 112k on it and he had simular concerns. He got it for 15k so it was woth it to him.
Steve Dinan said the average engine life expectancy out of a BMW M engine is 150kmiles. He has seen his modified engines go more then 200k.

he is asking ?20k for the car , I know it is/was well maintianed ....so not an issuse .
Was really asking regarding engine longiverty...and the above reply answered my question nicely :thumb:
?20k is a really good price for the car (he is upgrading to an RS6 and the dealer will not take the M5 as p/x), but he can afford to take the hit on the M5
that is good news to me
cheers everyone

Yeah we had the M5 released in 2005 here in UK.
20k IS a bargain here! Even with 75k miles. you CAN buy the extended warranty still from BMW uk, but you have to wait 1 month after paying for it before it takes effect and it is only valid for 100kmiles. HOWEVER you can only take out the extended waranty IF the car has all the services completed and especially the FIRST service. My advice would be if BMW will not warranty it then stay away and pay the extra few k for an M5 you get a warranty on.
You won't find a better priced M5 for sure! You know the seller you have to trust him. For me I would ask how much Audi are offering him as a PX, I'm sure it will be less than 20k, then offer him the same stating at least he knows it will go to a good home and he will be able to stay in touch with the lovely beast
Allthough before trust him entirely, just bare in mind he wants a new RS6 instead of a new M5 so clearly he has some physcological issues.......

they are very "well off" so they can take the hits on new car ...its actually his sister's car ...and she has kids with her all the time (so no boy racer there ).
think i might just take its off him ...as I dont do alots of mileage myself , so afew year down the line its will be average mileage
thank again for all replies

The engine is strong enough, you're only concern will be the SMG gearbox. But if it is used as a family car i.o. 'boy racer', it should be fine for at least another 75k!

75k miles is no problem for the car at all. The car can easily go 3x the miles, without any problems, specially when it's not used at track days or similar.
