Maybe I am the idiot, but he insists. I looked up the RS4 0-60 time, and it is listed at 4.7 seconds. From what I can find, the M5 does 0-62 in 4.7. Comments?

I wouldn't say he's a total idiot. The RS4 has a curb weight of just over 3400 lbs compared to the M5's 3900 lbs. The RS4 has a weight/HP ratio of 8.1, the M5 has 7.7, so they are close. Bottom line is the M5 will easily beat the RS4 from a roll at any speed because of the better power-weight ratio, and the 7 speed SMG. The RS4 could give the M5 problems in the 0-60 sprint because it's lighter, close in power-weight, has AWD, and has a manual transmission which gives a better launch. Those AWD Audi's can launch like a rocket (I've owned several), so I wouldn't call your friend an idiot.

Are you sure that the RS4 weighs only 3400lbs?

The current S4 weighs over 4000lbs and the RS4 is probably even heavier due to the beefed up components. Something tells me your numbers are wrong.

Curb weight of the S4 is 3850 lbs, it's the convertable that is over 4,000 lbs.

There are no official weights given yet, but the only two I've found list the RS4 with a curb weight of 3417 lbs, and the avant version (wagon) at 3572 lbs.

They make a big deal about using extensive aluminum on the suspension and hood, and use lightweight seats, so it's possible. We'll have to wait and see for sure. If the performance numbers are correct, 3400 lbs plus sounds about right.

It would be very impressive for the car to only weigh 3400lbs. I guess we shall wait and see...

Is the 6-speed manual the only available transmission for the RS4 ?
