06s are fine. Most people forget that the M5 actually went on sale around the rest of the world as an 05 model. Thus having already been out for about a year before they came to the states. While true some 06s have problems, many do not. My cousin has an 08 which had a cylinder mis-fire after 10k miles. Is that to say all 08s are bad? No...

I'm getting about 13.5 mpg but I really baby my car. I'm debating buying a daily driver soon actually...
If I get 13.5 I will be happy.

I baby my Subaru 80% of the time and it gets 14-17 (in NOVA traffic and city driving) so honestly 13.5 mpg is not that bad for a V10.

The AWD and quick spooling turbo did not help me Now on the highway I could get 25+ but still......

But like someone said earlier, you do not buy an M5 for gas mileage.

I am moving very close to where I work in 4 months so the Beast will not see the light of day unless it is a late night grocery run or a weekend.

Considering my circumstances mileage does not matter to me, but a bigger tank would help for range

I also have a crazy idea for a Daily/winter project car next year (Think AWD Supercharged 3.6 Liter, but that probably will not get more than 20 mpg as well

+1

I think a lot of the problems are associated with early build 2006s with production date in 2005 so look for cars that are build mid to late 2006 if you want a 2006 model year car.

If you're concerned about gas mileage, then you shouldn't get the M5.

It's not a deal breaker, nor is it a big concern, I was just curious about what people were getting. A friend said he gets about 8 mpg and that seemed a bit low.

Do you guys think spending over $3k on an extended warranty would be worth it for an '06 with 30k miles? If the tranny goes out, it seems to be worth itself just after that job..

I think it's a no brainer to get an extended warranty. Peace of mind.

I am thinking about going with Warranty Solutions which was formally owned by GE Capital, and Wachovia just recently bought Warranty solutions from GE.

https://www.warrantysolutions.com/b2b/publi...duct_option.jsp

I am probably getting the 5 Star

I posted a few times and have not heard anyones experience with this warranty. It seems to be pretty reputable and can only be bought through a dealer (cannot login to warrantysolutions.com as a normal consumer and buy it)

My dealer suggested it as he has had good luck with them over the years, and BMW dealerships as well as Indy shops seem to have no trouble with them as well.

I am open to anyones views on this warranty as well as others though.

Like you said an aftermarket warranty for 2-3k is worth it because an SMG failure alone will be 10k+

I did remember reading some rumors that BMW would allow you to get an extended factory warranty even if you were not the original owner assuming you still had some original factory warranty balance remaining. This may have fallen through in recent months though......

Also a good aftermarket warranty can be bumper-to-bumper aside from maintenance items which may cover some things the CPO or extended BMW warranty would not.

And with the 2006 M5 issues, from everyone I have spoken to and everything I have read as long as the build date was in 2006 (Or late 2005) the M5 should be just as reliable as the 2007 M5. If we knew the beginning VIN when they corrected the SMG issues that would be helpful when purchasing as well.

I went with Easy Care cause that's the company that my dealer works with. This should hopefully make things a bit "easier" since my SA can basically tell Easy Care what warranty work needs to be done and be the go-between. I think if you get a warranty from a different company than what your local dealer works with then you probably have to work with their adjusters. The process can also be delayed with claim reimbursements and stuff if your dealer doesn't have a working relationship with your insurance company.

A few Q's Euro:

How much was it?

Deductible?

What does it cover?

What does it not cover?

How many miles/years does it last?
