I currently have a 545i and I've been dreaming to get an M5 in the near future.
Since reading all the negatives of owning an M, I'm thinking that I could just keep my 545i and buy an M for weekends and such.

Does anyone of you own a couple of 5's (M and non-M E6x's)? Any thoughts on those who went to this route?
Or is this a stupid idea?

Just throw a sprint booster in you 545i

In all seriousness...IMO i would rather get an m3 for a weekend car if you're in that position to have both. IMO, I consider a coupe to be a "weekend" car.

I've had a few 3 series in the past (still have one) and a bunch of coupes.
This is my first sedan in a long time. I got tired of driving coupes being smoked by sleeper sedans.

"sleeper sedan" i.e. 545i + the SB

I had a 545 that was fully modified with Dinan performance parts and all the cosmetic upgrades as well. I then got an M5 and for a period of about 5 months, I had both cars. It just took me a while to sell the 545. Even if I wanted two cars, I wouldn't keep two E60s cause I would always want to drive the M5.

Is the SB really good? I have not done any performance mod. I kinda miss my chipped TT ($500 for 52 crank HP) - I know its next to impossible to get any gain for the E60 for $500. I know the SB doesn't gain you any HP, but I'd be happy if it could "emulate" a big HP gain.

Anyone in NoVA who has a SB in their E60 could let me test drive their car?

M5 is the ultimate E60, I dont see a point in having it for the weekends while keeping the regular E60. If anything, maybe an M6 for weekends just because its a coupe.

Also, what negatives are you talking about in regards to the M5? Its nothing but positives in my opinion, just too damn fast sometimes for my taste

I just can't see you going out to your garage, seeing both cars and then driving off in the 545 because it's a weekday.
If you go that route I bet you sell your 545 in no time.

Yeah, after I got my M5, the 545 sat under a car cover pretty much the whole time until it was sold. The way I look at it, if you're gonna spend that kind of money on a car, why not have fun with it?
