It's like it's dragging something under braking, the tires are good, the brake is ok (at least the onboard computer say), no suspension mods on my car, it's all stock. Mine only just done 20k mile, could it be the bearing?
If you hear a noise when the transmission is in gear and do not hear it in neutral, it's not the bearing. Did you try this?

Does the noise go away if you turn the wheel to one side while driving?

I have this problem on my 57 plate Touring. Usually from above 60 and braking medium to hard. Sounds like a loud droning noise. Only happens under braking and from speed. My first thoughts were a diff problem. Going in for a service next month so hopefully get it sorted then.
That's the sound I'm getting. Could you let me know what happen to yours when you're in for service? So, I can let my local dealer know what's wrong, they're useless! Last time it took me 4 visits to get a small warranty work done.

It was the sound of $4.39 premium gas sucking the life out of me.
You should be glad that you're ONLY paying $4.39. We're paying 4.5GBP/uk gallon, works out around 5.6USD/us gallon, and the car can only do 11mpg.

Like I had stated earlier, my old xi did the exact same thing...droning on the highway when I laid off the gas or brake. I think it was a differential issue.

On the M5Board I used to read a lot about this sound and issue, and it was almost always the diff.

i have an 05 545i. and ever since i replaced my stock: rotors to cross/slotted, 124 wheels to M5 166, ps2 tires to fk452 and pads to axxis ultimate, i have exactly the sound you're getting/talking about.

when i initially did the bedding of the brakes, from 60 to 10, i thought my wheels were gonna fly off!! i eventually had to bed brakes about 10 times to get squeal out, but it worked. though i still have this droning noise when medium to hard braking. never had them when stock.

now did you replace 1 or more of the components i mentioned? do you have cross drilled rotors? i honestly think its the combination of pads and rotors that is causing this so called drone we are hearing. and maybe our tires could also play a factor in this: i think my fk452 has a stiffer/rigid sidewall than my previous ps2 so the road noise and imperfections are not being absorb by the tire but instead transfering through the suspension. this is just my best guess as to what is going on...i'd like to hear what others may think is the issue.

Mine is a stock M5. It didn't have this sound when I bought it in November, but have noticed it in the last few months. it's 20 months old and has done 11k miles

The horrible sound would occur only when I step on the brakes. I just had all of my brake pads replaced because of this squealing noise. The noise is gone finally, been living with it for over a year. Have the dealer check the brakes, I had the same issue on my 545 as well. Good Luck.
