Default Aim high..is this too tall an order?

Guys,
  • E60, M5, pre-LCI (build date 13-6-2006)
  • CDP in glove-box MP3 compatible
  • Hi-Fi Option 677 (Logic 7)
  • Bluetooth’s compatibility Version 9138179 (latest, well latest according to BMW)

Question…..
Is it possible, or does anyone have experience of integrating an i-phone (any version will do) in such a way that it can be controlled via i-drive?

We know the CDP to i-pod is possible, but how much comes up on the in-car screen?
The aim is to play Spotify in the car, controlled via i-drive....

I think this is possible on latest BMW's, but is it too tall an order for 7-yr vehicle?

Thanks,

David

I can't answer your question, but I'm sure you'll have more options if you upgraded from the CCC to CIC system. (I plan on upgrading mine in the spring)

Hope it works out for you.

wont work, the best you can do is plug in the aux jack and go old school stereo. The CCC ipod integration is horrific. I bought one and took it back. It uses the cd menu to mimic function on the ipod. You dont even get any ipod like menus, etc. Each disk menu is something different and you have to remember what is what. Like disk 1 is Artists, 2 is Albums, etc. Terrible.

Thanks guys for all the advice,

Now got the i-pod kit.
Removed CDP, fitted i-pod kit.
A very simple operation.
Works fine, but not quite as bad as you imply.
It is clunky yes, but, then so is the SMG...
It is very, very slow to get songs up on screen.
But once up, the stereo quality is astounding and indistinguishable from CD.
Playing music thru AUX is dire quality.

Have now gone wireless by integrating this:-
Tune2Air WMA1000 Bluetooth Music Receiver, Support Airplay, Audi-A2DP, Mercedes-A2DP and VW-A2DP - PRODUCT - ViseeO Worldwide Official Site
This works a dream and my i-pod touch now talks to the car...

On later models with the CIC, it is quite brilliant.
Blindingly fast and gives full on-screen readouts.
BUT.....
Upgrading from CCC to CIC looks to be monstrously £££££££££
