Just picked up my m5 from the dealer for routine oil change and inspection.... This is my first oil change with a BMW, my car has 14500kms. I got the invoice and it was $740.69CAN! for oil change, 55-point inspection, microfilter, and another filter i cant remember the last.

Is this normal for a routine oil change and checkup? Remember.. this is in CANADIAN Dollars.. so roughly 590 bucks USD.

I have to go back with a cheque in an hour so please help!

Ouch! Routine service is included in the price of the car for the US vehicles, so it's $0 here.

I had an out of cycle oil change at my dealer and it was "only" about $180. Maybe they charged you more for the 55 pt inspection and microfilter? But like NobleForums said, in the US, scheduled maint for 4yr/50K miles is free.

Sounds like one of the routine Inspection I or II, whichever is the smaller of the 2 .

When you went in, did you ask for just an oil change? That "55 point inspection" is a joke. You probably don't need a microfilter at 14.5k

I forgot but I think the scheduled oil service is every 15K miles. You can actually see when things are coming due in your iDrive menu. I did an interim oil change out of the recommended cycle so I had to pay for it but it was just the oil change, not the inspection...etc..

That sounds way out of line. I kept my 325 a year or so past the 4-yr maintenance package, and a complete inspection of belts, hoses, etc. and an oil change with BMW synthetic was only about US$75-80. That was two years ago, but still. Once I priced doing it myself, and I would have saved only about $20 after I bought the oil and filter, and I felt the hassle plus the dealership's OK was more than worth it.

I always love how they "throw in" a 55 point inspection as if it had value to you and was not just another attempt to find more stuff they can sell you as it is going to fail soon!!
