Was reading my new Car & Driver this weekend and they had a comparison of the M5, along with the rival MB and Caddy. Obviously the M5 was the clear winner.

While the article was really just more of the same glowing praise that we've all read before about the M5, there was one thing which caught my eye...the article mentioned that a 6 speed manual transmission will be made available next year for the M5.

This is the first time I have ever heard such a thing. Is this correct?

Well, I looked through the forum before posting, and did not see it discussed, so it cant be that old.

My apologies for wasting your bandwith.

That'll be $0.000000000002 please (I have a ton of bandwidth...)

The rumor of the manual was posted on Oct 8, 2004 right here. After that, there was a lot of discussion about it in other threads and then official confirmation about it was posted on August 15, 2005 right here.

(In other words, there's no need for the "Gees...." comment, I was just answering your question there, my friend. If you'd like, I can put you on my ignore list and I won't bother to help you out in the future -- your call.)

Apparently I didnt search back far enough to see the prior notes. I do appreciate the confirmation.

As for the choice whether or not to ignore me, I'll leave it to you. I didnt bring any attitude into the post. I just asked a very sincere and unknowing question. You were the one who decided to be cheeky with the "old news" reference. It was a dig, albeit a subtle one, towards someone who obviously doesnt know as much as you. If your replies to any of my future questions will be met with equal chiding, feel free to ignore me. I can do without your "help".

However, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones and all just get along, if you want to accept the olive branch I'm extending....

AH for us hangin around this board or any board concerning the M cars it is old news, so Rudy was stating fact as far as that goes and not picking on you in particular in my estimation. But then again I could be wrong

And it (manual tranny that is) comes up more so in recent threads as we discuss the crippled LC (launch control) that BMWNA has foisted upon the M5 and probably the M6 when it gets here next year. So you can expect to see some pretty heated debates on LC and the pros/cons of the USA only (as of this writing) manual tranny

It's all good! There was never a "dig" intended on my initial reply and I'm sorry if you interpreted it any other way. I took your reply to me as the one that brought on the attitude which is why my sarcasm began to flow from there.

As you become more familiar with many of us "regulars" here, as I hope you do, I think you'll see that there are many different personalities at play here but we don't ever intentionally mean any disrespect. (If you want intentional disrespect, go over to roadfly! ) This, among other things, is what makes this forum one of the best on the internet.

Again, all is well -- even my sarcastic and silly antics (see: my avatar) are always in the spirit of fun and never meant to offend. I hope you understand that and I'm truly glad you're here with us.

Olive branch accepted!

Woo hoo!

Rudy - I love spirited debate as much as anyone, so I'll look forward to jumping headfirst into the discussions once I'm a little more "E60 savvy". I've just recently discovered this forum and do not visit here as much as I hope to, once I'm an E60 guy. Until then, I'll try to do a better job not asking the questions which have already been bandied about between all you "regulars".

For now, I'm hanging primarly at the bimmerboard E38 forum (as I have an '01 740il sport). However, I know there's a 550 (or M5?) heading my way sometime soon, so I'm stopping by here more often, if only just to learn a few things.

Sorry to be such a sensitive sally about your inital post. Ha ha ha. I appreciate your last post a great deal...

Bygones.

Welcome. Yes, then I will consider one. And, I, for one, welcome the same old information and questions not that I have been around that long either. Any of us always can always ignore old question and news. And, I don't want anyone to feel unwelcome for posting old whatever. But, I emphasize that I am not really commenting on the lawguy/Rudy out of shapeness. Hey, and as I recall, we need lawguys here since legal matters often come up. But, lawguy may be a LEO--Law Enforcement Officer. OK, if you are, remember that I am a CANCER--Contrite Adult Never Counteracting Enforcemant Radar.

Vnod -

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a "lawguy" in the sense of representing persons "wrongly" accused of speeding. I'm not a LEO, I assure you. Not that there's anything wrong with being a LEO. However, anyone looking at my driving record and the ridiculous number of moving citations I've received in the past 5 years will most assuredly see that I'm usually on the OTHER end of the law enforcement relationship.

PS - what year is your Z06?
