Can you get an extended warranty (third party if neccessary) on the M5? The warranty would probably only cost marginally more the extended warranty you are looking at for your 545. No question you will love the M5. I bought an '06 used (2 years old) and have had no trouble. I leased it for 3 years to take me through to the F10, but I wouldn't do it without an extended warranty.

I won't be needing the extended warranty on an 06 M5. I should be able to pick one up that has about 2 years remaining on the factory warranty. I'm just a bit worried about buying an abused or trouble car.

I'm not positive but I believe any dealer can print out the service history from the VIN #.

Not meaning to scare you off but personally I would avoid an '06 M5. There were a LOT of stories on m5board.com of SMG issues with the '06. It would simply all of a sudden refuse to shift and leave folks stranded once they pulled in some where or got stopped in traffic on the highway. It's nicknamed the "red cog of death".

I think there was a recall, several service bulletins, etc. If the car had ALL of the work done and has an extended warranty fully covering the SMG, then maybe but I'd think hard about it.

Anybody???
Call the service department of a local dealer. Or better yet, call the dealership the car was purchased from. I'm in the process of buying an 07 M5. I called a dealer 4 hours from me and the service department was happy to run the VIN for me. They sold the car new.
