There is no way I could of handled that car at 20. If I was the father, I would require every BMW driving school offered before I would ok the purchase of something like this and it sure as heck would'nt be my money paying for it. Too many kids these days are having accidents and killing others with all the distractions. Cellphone, showing off with cars that have insane power, nav and dvd distractions just to name a few. Just last year two kids crashed going around a curve by my house and both were killed. They were 16 and 17. Several days later I saw one of the boys father sitting in a lawn chair just starring at the tree where his son was killed. SAD!!!!!!

Yes my man, u r 100% right, when you buy a Ferrari you have to pass a test drive course org by the factory and then when you are familiar with the car you get the keys.

BMW Driver Training Adv I, Performance, and then M training, and I would do that on the Nordschleife with an M3 too be a better driver

I sometimes wonder about what the driver was doing when I see awful pictures like that. Do some people buy an M5 and think to themselves, "hey I'm driving the best car on the planet, I can do anything and get away with it". Some of the over-enthusiastic motoring journalists on TV don't help the situation by encouraging us to drive such cars like lunatics. Fine on the track but not too good on public roads when so many variables are at play. It takes some skill to really handle those 500bhp, even in a car as good as an M5.

In some parts of Australia for example drivers under 21 years are power to weight restricted and can no longer drive cars like the Subaru Impreza WRX (or an M5) after a series of fatals in Subarus. Good idea I think. Don't like the idea sharing the highways with an 18 year old out for a thrill in dads M5, or his own Impreza for that matter.
My view on the matter from back in March. Sorry to be such an old curmudgeon

Unfortunately that's not enough, i think the ideea is somewhat good but the thing is that no matter how good the driver you are, in traffic you depend on others too, so if some lunatic or whatever comes at you, and smashes you from nowhere, it doesn't matter then how good the driver you are. I think it's also a matter of luck and keeping your eyes on full focus on what's around you (right hemisphere brain activity ) and the actual driving/pilot techniques can come as an optional.
I know this because i was involved in a crash like that...and i mearly got out alive, with serious damage to myself but yes speed is important, your ability as a driver is important but if the circumstance occurs where you are not the one deciding the fate then it's useless.

yes my friend, but we discussed here principles not doing miracles against law of physics e.g.

so when you see that somebody is on your tail or next to you or even gets closer you do not do IDIOT things over 200+... and on the training they teach you what is your and your cars limit! I can only recommend it, than if sy is stupid to risk his and others life no training can help, it is not only to control the car, control ourselves,

I must say not really, a good driver never cause such things, I did not talk about being a technical driver I ment thinking and then making good decission, if I have 1m I will not floor it in DS even if I have 100bhp more than the other, that is what I ment. And you always have to concentrate on driving 100%.

... of course with M5 it is hard as you always might feel you are faster, etc, but that is a stupid behavior, although that car is built to fly, but better on the ground

eg. most of the time I speed that is why I drive e60 and not a Renault but I never risk(ed) ever anything just to show that I am faster or braver. Being mature is the key here and that is only in our head

Good road driving is primarily about observation - a really good driver should be able to predict what other road users are going to do based on their behaviour as well as notice, prioritise and react to hazards in a fraction of a second.

This is what police drivers are trained to do.

Most 20 year olds have not had sufficient experience and training to learn these techniques. Certainly UK driving tests and instructors don't teach this to any significant extent or focus on driving at speed.

I'm certainly better at this now than I was when I first started driving - due to the best part of half a million miles of driving experience.

It always amazes me that in the UK learners can't go on the motorway - so they have no experience of it - yet the moment they pass they can drive on it unsupervised - clearly bonkers.

Unfortunately 20 year old men are also generally pretty impetuous, aggressive and unpredictable. This is the demographic that commits most crime and causes most accidents.

All of this is good reason why 20 year olds are not the ideal drivers for a 500bhp car

I hope they all got out OK.
