Hi,
Can anyone tell me the benefits or reasons why people replace the stock Xpipe with an aftermarket one? I'm trying to figure out the quad setup and was wondering if I need to swap out the original.
I'm probably going to follow Jordan23Junkie's advice and go with Borla XS mufflers. I know a shop that can do the whole thing for under $400 (excluding Xpipe).
If anyone is interested, it's in the Rowland Heights area here in SoCal- Speedway Mufflers.
Thanks!
Mike

prevents loss of hp and low end torque, and I think it helps prevent that backfire sound.
vette magazine:
"Crossover pipes on dual exhaust systems are supposed to balance and smooth out exhaust pulses between the two sides of the system. Theoretically, the crossover should also give a slight improvement on exhaust gas scavenging, which should offer some modest gains in power output. On C5s, the intermediate pipes (forward of the rear axle and aft of the catalytic converters) have a crossover, a straight section of pipe running perpendicular between and connected to the intermediate pipes. Many people refer to this as an H pipe or an H crossover."

Thanks. But don't we already have an X Pipe? I'm just wondering why we don't use the factory X Pipe?
Do the aftermarket ones compensate and maintain the low end torque and further reduce sound?
thanks

The 530, 545 and 550 do not have X pipes, because they do not have mufflers on both sides of the car. They basically have a Y pipe - 2 pipes come out of the headers, and they lead into a resonator(s), and a single pipe comes out going into the stock muffler.
When you go quads or mufflers on both sides, you'll need to split the flow somewhere. Therefore, the Y pipe becomes an X pipe or 2 straight pipes that never touch.
Theoretically, the X pipe is better than 2 parallel straight pipes because the gases on the 2 sides intersect and can even out the flow of the entire system, therefore maintaining some backpressure and torque. I don't think anyone has compared X pipe vs straight pipes on the same car, so I can't confirm for sure.

It would appear you are mistaking the the box resonator as a stock x-pipe.

I see what you guys are saying. It wouldn't make sense that I have an Xpipe already. I was basing this on the muffler shop guys telling me I don't need one, because it's already there.
I definitely will be getting an Xpipe then.
Thanks for all the help!
