My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
I am now fixated on getting new rims for my 530xi - and after much research I learned something. If you look for e60 rims on the net the offset is usually only 20mm and will only fit the non xi's. But you can get many of the 3 series rims to fit because the bolt pattern in the same and the offsets are 38-40mm - so they should fit and you can get non stock rims in a large variety of choices without paying $2000

That's great advice. And since you still have some room to work with the normal 43mm xi offset (on an 8" wide wheel), it's actually a good thing to get spaced out another 3 to 5mm on the offset. Good find.
(This is, of course, assuming that the lug/hub setup really is the same.)

I am seriously thinking about upgrading my stock 17" rims to the Sport Package 530i 18" Style 123 rim and having Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S (Ultra High Performance All Seasons) installed on them so I can use this set up year round in NJ (instead of switching them out ever winter). The Pirelli's come highly recommended and althought not a winter tire, still has good light snow ratings.

My Ride: 2009 535i Titanium Silver Metallic, xDrive, premium pkg, cold weather pkg, sat radio, rear split/heated seats, euro reflectors
my xi lands in NY in 2 days and I'm ordering the P zero's for the 18" 123's and ditching my RFTs. I've driven my 330xi with 17" all-season in some pretty bad snow and never had a problem. I'm hoping the 18" wheel is the same.

yes xi offset is 43, other e60s are 20 offset
certain oem rims are made with 43 offset rather than the usual 20 offset. there is a style 138 with a 43 offset for the xi and also a sytle 138 for other e60s
you can search many other discussions we've had on this issue.

yes, they are different. The standard rims have a 20mm offset and the xi rims have a 43mm offset. What this translates to is that if you put xi rims on a non xi car the tire will sit 2cm further into the wheel well. Or vice versa - if you put non xi rims on an xi then the tire will stick out 2 cm further and my stick out past the wheel well and cause rubbing. It depends upon the rim diameter.
So yes, BMW makes the same style rims 138, 122, etc - that look the same but fit different cars.
Do a search on the site and you will find lots of good information about it. Das, the adminstrator put non xi rims on his xi and they look great, but may rub. He has poseted pictures.

Thanks guys - another BMW mystery solved. I swear, BMW is the only car company to do things like this - all others would give the wheels a different #!

I was planning on buying them at the tire rack and having them shipped to a local tire shop for installation. I've done this on several vehicles and it works out fine.
